These two articles on making special clockmaking tools first appeared in the Horological Times, the monthly publication of the American Watchmakers/Clockmakers Institute. One describes making flycutters to cut gears, another describes making pilot cutters, a group of very useful tools.
The flycutter article appeared in the December 1999 and January 2000 issues of Horological Times. The pilot cutter article appeared in the June 2001 issue.
